According to foreign media reports, with the entry of Paraguay, in the next few years, the South American pulp industry is under construction or new 8 projects, the total investment will reach 18 billion US dollars, the new capacity of 14.8 million tons, according to the report that this capacity will be equivalent to 1.3 times Suzano's short fiber pulp production. Of the $18 billion in new investment, more than $10 billion will be in new projects within Brazil.

Among the short fibre pulp and dissolved pulp production lines already announced, Arauco in Chile and Bracell in Brazil will see an additional 1.27 million tonnes and 2.8 million tonnes of annual production, respectively, beginning in the fourth quarter of 2021.

LD Celulose plans to start production of 500,000 tonnes a year in Sao Paulo state from the first quarter of 2022. LD Celulose, a joint venture between Austrian investors Lenzing Group and Duratex Group, will start production in Minas from the first quarter of 2022 with a capacity to produce 500,000 tonnes of dissolved pulp a year. Paraguay's Paracel will have an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes when it begins production in the fourth quarter of 2022. UMP will add 2.1 million tonnes of pulp capacity per year from the fourth quarter of 2022, with a $2.7 billion production line in Uruguay due to start production by the end of 2022.

Suzano Brazil will add 2.2 million tonnes of annual capacity from early 2023. Euca Energy will add 2.1 million tonnes of annual capacity starting in the fourth quarter of this year. No date has been set for the new Eldorado production line, which is expected to add 2.3 million tonnes of staple pulp per year.
